As we build staff, hiring Lifestyle Coaches for our Diabetes Prevention Programs, we realize creating a team of talented, engaging, reliable coaches is one of the building blocks of a sustainable and successful DPP! So where can we start when we are considering hiring coaches?

First, the 2018 DPRP Standards, “Appendix C. Guidelines for Staff Eligibility, Roles, and Responsibilities; and Sample Position Descriptions”, beginning on page 36, provides wonderful guidance as we step into the hiring process.

Outside of this great resource consider taking the following brief, easy survey . Here, you will find 7 simple questions. Your answers along with so many other DPP leaders, will provide additional guidance, ranging from the size and number of classes offered and time analysis— to number of coaches hired and common pay practices.

In addition to this survey, don’t overlook reaching out to DPP leaders in your area! You can access your area program coordinators by exploring the Registry of All Recognized Organizations. Simply “search” by state or organization name and you will see program coordinator contact information, including name, address, program delivery type, and recognition level achieved. Collaboration among the DPP is amazing!
